BLUE ITALIAN BAND
Once I learned to do blackwork, most of what I did for the next few years were a series of 1-yard strips of blackwork (Spanish stitch) in various shades of DMC cotton floss. Some of the bands were gifts for friends, some were sold at the War, and several were donated as gifts for the MS auction which used to be held at Pennsic. I usually used Hardanger cloth (22 count) but this piece on 18 count Aida is pretty similar to what I was doing then (and is the only one I actually still own).
